Obituary For Raymond Robert Bunk III

Raymond Robert Bunk III was born on May 30, 1972, in Rockford, Illinois, to Walter and Mary
(Nordstrom) Bunk. He passed away December 17, 2023, in Bonney Lake, Washington. He is survived by
his wife, Angee (Iyall) Bunk; daughter, Adriana Guzman; brothers Chris (Diane) and Matt (Candy) Bunk; and nieces and nephews Dan, Matthew, Paul Thomas, Krystal, Chris, and Tony. Ray was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Danielle Erskine and Felicia Alfredson.

Raymond graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Rockford, IL. He continued his education at
Western Illinois University and earned an MBA at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA. Raymond
joined the United States Air Force in 1996 and was stationed at McChord Air Force Base in Washington
State. He served four years of active duty and then rejoined as a reservist for an additional 19 years.
Raymond retired as Senior Master Sergeant in May 2020. For most of his tenure, Raymond served in the
fire service earning several awards such as 62d Wing Airman of the Year, AMC Military Firefighter of the
Year, and AFSA First Term Airman of the Year. He had two deployments to Egypt and Iraq. He finished

of service. He served in the roles of Officer, Field Training Officer, Public Information Officer, Lieutenant, and Commander. He played a huge role on the Peer Support Team and Civil Disturbance Unit. In his “spare” time, Raymond served as a Fire Commissioner, Civil Service Commissioner, and business partner in a small distillery for several years.

Since his retirement in June, Raymond volunteered to walk dogs at the Humane Society, started guitar
lessons, went fishing, and earned a certification in auctioneering. Raymond was best known for his
sense of humor and endless “dad” jokes. Countless tributes have come in recounting his satire but also
his ability to positively impact everyone he encountered.

Raymond had a love for travel and sports. He and his wife, Angee, traveled to 32 countries together and
last year, they fulfilled a bucket list item by traveling to Antarctica. Together, they were season ticket
holders for the Seattle Kraken, Seahawks, Sounders, Seawolves, and the Lakewood Playhouse. But
Raymond’s all-time favorite was Notre Dame football – Go Irish!

Ray and Angee came into my restaurant many years ago. They came in so happy and Ray was shooting nonstop jokes at me and just shootin the crap as if we'd known eachother forever. They quickly became my regulars. not just any "regulars" but in all my twenty years, my absolute FAVORITE REGULARS. i guess 7 degrees of separation is a real thing when i had learned that Angee had been coworkers with my brother for many years too! I made it a point to come visit them at the Distillery and purchase some good drinks and support their side passion/hustle. They are both extraordinary people with humor just as big as their hearts. Ray was such a funny and kind guy and my heart is with his beautiful wife during this difficult time. May you rest easy and know that you are loved beyond words, Ray. 🫶🏽 i don't really drink whiskey anymore, but there's a shot of Jameson i'll be taking in honor of a great man gone way too soon.

I am sadden to hear such news. We sat next to each other in Architect Class each year in High School. We both had a goal of going into Law Enforcement. I see he joined the Air Force, I joined the Army. We may have crossed paths in Iraq and not even know it. He left a friendly impression of our interactions during our HS days. I will always be grateful for his humor, kindness, and friendship. RIP Brother.
