Obituary For Philip Andrew Clyde

Our precious Philip Andrew Clyde, born September 3rd, 1980 in Redmond, WA died on August 19th, 2021 in Auburn, WA after a valiant 4 week battle with covid. He leaves behind so many in deep grief, his brother Michael Clyde, his mother Wendy Taylor-Clyde, father Dick Clyde, grand-parents, Caleb (Jeff) and Patricia Taylor, Fred and Marlene Clyde, numerous Aunts and Uncles, and a large extended family of nearly a 100 people, as well as many new and old friends.

Philip was pure of heart. Throughout his life he quietly showed consistent, faithful generosity and kindness. In big and small ways he was always there to help, no matter what you needed. He was a truly faithful, loving and generous man in all of his relationships. His friends across the years describe him as loyal and trustworthy. He wasn’t judgmental or quick to offer opinions or advice, instead he listened and supported. He not only said he loved you, but showed it.

And, his love and generosity included strangers. He went on two mission trips to Haiti helping with building projects and later purchased several hundred acres in the Philippines for a community. That gift provided crops, thus vastly improving both nutrition and long term economic stability. For Philip it was natural, logical to share blessings God had given him with others whether it was acreage, tires, clothes, shoes, meals, or economic help for a friends failing business. Only Philip, God and many grateful people know the full story of his loving generosity.

Philip was a good student beginning with very happy years pre-school-6th grade at Valley Christian School (VCS). From there he attended Rainer Jr. High and graduated from Auburn High School (AHS) in 1999. While at AHS he participated in the Pathways program upgrading computers throughout the school, and volunteered in the 6th grade classroom at VCS helping students with reading and computer skills. After graduating he attended Green River Community College and most enjoyed the photography classes. He was a natural photographer and it became his life long joy. We have many of his pieces of visual art framed in our homes.

Philip enjoyed working for a few years with children at the YMCA in Federal Way, then moved on to Meadowsweet Dairy in Kent serving as a delivery driver in the greater Seattle area for over 15 years, and for the past 2.5 years was a Longshoreman at the Port of Tacoma. At the Port he was highly respected for his excellent work ethic, dependability, great attitude and for being a team player who encouraged others. Adding to his close buddies from Meadowsweet he made great friends at the Port who he also loved sharing life with. He enjoyed light hearted and deep conversations, playing cards at the Hall, traveling and skiing with his brother and friends.

Philip found great pleasure not only in creatively expressing himself through photography, but in traveling extensively to Haiti, Japan, the Philippines, Hawaii, Florida, California and in countless jaunts around the Pacific Northwest. He enjoyed family camping trips to Mt. Adams, hiking, riding his motorcycle, skiing and playing guitar. He always had not one, but several computers, helped his mom with hers, and even built his own. Through his job at Meadowsweet he made friends with chefs and restaurateurs in Seattle and appreciated fine dining, and sous vide cooking at home. He served THE BEST rib eye steak, seared to perfection on his cast iron skillet! Yum! From the time he was a young child to his death Philip put his trust and faith in Jesus Christ. He sought God through scripture, sharing verses and insights with friends and family. He loved to worship especially through music and shared those songs closest to his heart. He encouraged others in their faith, and even through a difficult period of his life his faith in God remained.

In every way Philip was a joy, a treasure with a pure heart and a song of praise on his lips. Our hearts ache beyond measure to lose him. We are grateful to have shared life and love with him. We are grateful knowing that God has welcomed him with the words, “well done, my good and faithful servant.” Well done indeed Philip. You have been good, so good and so faithful.

We are grateful that every moment of Philip’s life with us, and for eternity has, and always will be in God’s loving, comforting and life giving hands.

Following is a scripture passage that best sums up Philip’s philosophy and way of living:

If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy but don’t love, I’m nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate. No matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love. Love is patient. Love is kind. It doesn’t envy, boast, and isn’t proud. It never dishonors others, isn’t self-seeking, isn’t easily angered and keeps no record of wrongs. Love doesn’t delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. In this life we hold fast to: faith, hope and love. But the greatest, and the one that lives on for eternity is love.

From I Corinthians 13
