Layne Lydell Skaar passed away peacefully at home on May 21st, 2025, surrounded in love by his family and best friend.
Layne was born on July 10th, 1960, in Stanley, North Dakota to the late Lars “Bud” and Evelyn Skaar.
He graduated in 1978 from Sumner High School and went on to join the carpenters union. He eventually started working for his parents at Skaar Construction, Inc., and took over the family business in 1995 when Bud and Evelyn retired. Layne carried on the success of Skaar Construction and remained President until his passing.
Layne enjoyed fishing, specifically for Walleye, at Rufus Woods on the Columbia River. He also enjoyed hunting in Wyoming on the property passed down by his parents. Layne had a passion for golf and was a member of the Linden Country Club for many years.
Layne loved his family deeply and loved being “Papa” to his three granddaughters. Those who knew Layne knew how he could light up a room with his infectious smile. He told the best stories and could make anyone laugh.
Layne is preceded in death by his parents Lars “Bud” Skaar & Evelyn (Moore) Skaar. Layne is survived by his wife of 39 years Tami; daughter Sara; son Shayne; and granddaughters Ava, Ryan and Palmer.
Layne is also survived by his brother Jason Skaar, and nephews Lyle, Evan, and Gavin.
