To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under Heaven, Ecclesiastes 3:1
Larry Gene Long went to be with his Lord on January 20, 2024 in Puyallup, Washington. Larry was a
beloved husband, father, grandfather, great and great great grandfather. He was preceded in death by his
parents, his first wife Sylvia, son Matthew Greg Long and his brothers, Mike Long and Leslie Long Jr.
On May 18, 1943, Larry was born to Ruth and Leslie Long Sr. in Santa Maria, CA. He spent much of his
childhood in Petaluma, CA. Larry grew up the first of 4 children with sister Linda Dixon, brother Butch(Leslie Jr)Long and brother Mike Long.
Larry is survived by his wife Cheryl. Together they raised a blended family that included daughter Leona
(Steven) Vanderlinda, daughter Catherine (Edwin) Lowery, daughter Joy (John) Luthy, daughter Jeanna
(Chris) Kooser, son Matthew Long and son Matthew Worley. Grandpa Long had thirteen grandchildren,
five great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. Larry was proud of his family and loved them all.
Larry was a carpenter by trade and it was his passion. He worked on everything from high-rises in Seattle
to add-ons for himself and his friends and families. You could always be assured that whatever he built
would stand the test of time. Larry also loved the outdoors and pursued his dual passions of fishing and hunting. Those who knew him best treasured the smile he was famous for when reeling in the big (or
little) catch. His later years saw him working in another space he treasured, his church.
While those of us close to Larry will miss him deeply, we take solace in the knowledge that he is with his
beloved Lord and Savior. In his hands and care Larry will find joy in Heaven where he will join family
and friends already passed on. Those of us left behind find ourselves deeply saddened but we know that Larry would like us to remember he is at peace and in Heaven waiting to meet with him again.
A Memorial service will be held on February 10, 2024 at 10:00 am at Voiles Funeral Chapel, 15124 Main St. E. Sumner, Washington. A light reception to follow.
