John Cooper, 78, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2025, in Puyallup, Washington. A devoted family man, veteran, and community servant, John lived a life marked by dedication, generosity, and quiet strength.
Born on February 15, 1947, in Seattle, Washington, John was the son of Fred and Mary Cooper. He grew up in Seattle and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1965 before earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting from the University of Washington in 1974. His education laid the foundation for a long and successful career in the Pacific Northwest’s industrial sector.
Following his graduation, John began his professional journey at Weyerhaeuser before moving on to Boeing, where he worked until his retirement in 2002. He took great pride in being part of the B2 Bomber project—an achievement that reflected both his technical skill and commitment to excellence.
John also served his country with honor as a Petty Officer Third Class in the United States Navy from 1968 to 1971. He was stationed aboard the USS Hollister during the Vietnam War. His military service remained a source of pride throughout his life.
Faith played a central role in John's life. For over five decades, he was a dedicated member of Nine Lakes Baptist Church. His commitment to service extended beyond the church walls; for over 20 years he volunteered with the Federal Way Community Caregiving Network, offering support to those in need. John also traveled to New York City after September 11th to help serve meals to first responders and others affected by the tragedy.
John found joy and peace in nature through gardening, camping, and hiking—activities that allowed him to connect with the world around him and share meaningful moments with loved ones.
He is lovingly remembered by his daughters Angela Cooper Lutz and Heather Cooper Bishop; grandchildren Paxxton Lutz and Michael Lutz; son-in law Fred Bishop; brother Tom Cooper; sisters Sally (Ron) Gustafson, Peggy (Rudy) Gladsjo, and Jeanne Cooper (Ray Muniz).
John was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Mary Cooper.
John’s friendly spirit, outgoing nature, and unwavering generosity left an indelible mark on all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort and inspiration to those whose lives he touched.
