Obituary For John "Jack" Edmond Carlson

John "Jack" Carlson, born on May 16, 1927 in Sumner, Washington, passed away on January 12, 2025 at the age of 97. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Joseph and Grace Carlson, his daughter Mary and widow Peggy.

Jack grew up in Sumner, where he attended Sumner High School. After graduating, he was drafted into the Marines and served honorably during World War II. Following his military service, Jack became a well-known figure in his community as the co-owner and operator of the Riverside Tavern, where he welcomed many with warmth, hospitality and often a joke or two. He was also a passionate motorcyclist and co-founder of the River City Motorcycle Club. With a collection of awards to his name, Jack rode his dirt bike with enthusiasm well into his 70's.

Jack is survived by his devoted wife, Sharon; his children, John (Barbara) and Willow (Gary); his brother, Wes (Myrtle); and his stepchildren, Joe (Tami), Greg, and Jeff (Lolita). He also leaves behind cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jack will be remembered for his vibrant personality, his love for family and friends, and his contributions to both his community and the sport he adored. He touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed.

A graveside service will be held at Sumner Cemetery on Tuesday, January 21st at 2:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Wounded Warriors.
