Obituary For Jeffrey H. Coville

On September 18, 2024, at age 64, Jeffrey Harold Coville took one final nap in his reclining chair.

Born January 23, 1960 to Sidney and Barbara Coville in Oakland, California, Jeff lived most of his life, including his final days, in Orting, Washington. He played baseball for the Orting High School Cardinals, but no success on the baseball diamond would compare to the fateful day in class when he asked Lisa (Holloway) if he could borrow a pencil - an interaction that would lead to a different kind of diamond and 44 happy years of marriage. He never returned the pencil.

Jeff followed his father into construction, where he worked on numerous large-scale projects in Western Washington over the years. A project particularly close to his heart was a large expansion of Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, the hospital where each of his children was born and where both of his parents received care toward the ends of their lives. Jeff’s career took him away from home in recent years, spending time in both Indiana and California, and while it was hard on him to be away from family, long visits from Lisa led to many memory-filled road trips through parts of the country they had never before visited. Happily, he was able to spend much of the past year closer to home, working in Moses Lake, Washington and spending many weekends on his boat with his family.

Over the course of his life there may have been a person or two with whom Jeff did not see eye to eye. Those he loved, though, he loved with all his heart. Jeff was very involved in the extracurriculars of his four children, spending many years coaching his sons’ soccer and baseball teams and ensuring a tip jar was kept on the piano, where he would deposit a dollar when he heard his daughter practicing. He got a kick out of sending gifts to his loved ones, from surprising his wife with flowers on no particular occasion, to sending cases and cases of diapers after the birth of a new grandchild and pretending he had nothing to do with it. Jeff loved his dogs nearly as much as he loved any human, and had Lisa not put her foot down they would have had a dozen.

Jeff is preceded in death by his parents, and by his beloved French Bulldogs Taz, Daroga and Chelan. He is survived by his wife Lisa; his children Doug (Sara), Denise (Kyle), Mark (Pauline) and Brad (Alyssa); his grandchildren Bailey, Harrison, Nolan, Beau, Maddoxx, Tegan, Stella, Owen, Easton and Jacob; his siblings Jackie, David, Andy and Chris; and French Bulldog Canyon.

In accordance with his wishes, Jeff’s family will hold a small, private celebration of his life. If desired, memorial contributions may be made in his name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at the following web address:
