James “Pappy” Edward Burgess was born September 15th, 1947 in Raleigh, North Carolina to Elmer M. Burgess and Emma Walker Burgess.

James passed away peacefully at 7pm on May 22nd, 2019 at home surrounded by family in Orting, Washington. He was 72.

James graduated from Apex High School, class of 1966. Soon after, in September 1969, he joined the Air Force and was honorably discharged October 12th, 1971.

James was a member of the Washington Army National Guard 303rd cavalry and the Oregon National Guard and was also a highly skilled and accomplished mechanic.

His passions in life were Nascar and sitting by the campfire with his family.

James is survived by his wife, Frances; Children, Laurie, Penny, Robin and James; as well as 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his son, Jonathon.
