Obituary for Renae Carnay
03/12/1949 - 10/16/2021
Renae (Elizabeth Renae Atkinson Paradis Carnay) has left this world to gain her wings and crown with God. She arrived as the first child of Orlo and Lila Atkinson. She was born March 12, 1949 and died on October 16th, 2021. The pioneer Atkinson family came to Washington in the late 1880s by way of New York, Kansas and Ohio.
She has four siblings still living: Ken Atkinson, Kristi Langdahl, Barbara Sjoden and Rose Giffin. They grew up on the Atkinson farm where they were all in 4-H and learned about cows, sheep and farming. Renae also enjoyed sewing and considered being a Home Economics teacher at one time. She leaves behind her last love, Kye Hillig.
Three children were born to Renae and her ex-husband, Jim: Daniel James, Marcia Gayle and Julie Anne. There are also four granddaughters: Emily, Abigayle, Parker and Addison. They were extremely loved by their mother and grandmother.
There are many cousins and other relatives too numerous to list here.
Renae was instrumental in establishing the \"Historic Atkinson Farmhouse\" in the Pierce County Historical Registry as a monument to homesteaders from earlier times. Her Great, great grandparents, George and Rose Atkinson completed the house in 1911. George and Rose came to the Washington Territory in 1882. He bought the land on Canyon Crest from George Ryan of Sumner. Then later sold a portion to the Puget Sound Power and Light company which is where the White River power plant is now located.
Most of the deceased family members reside in the Pioneer section of the Sumner Cemetery.
She was a pupil in Dieringer up to 8th grade then completed her schooling at the Sumner Junior and Sumner High schools. Renae enjoyed the many friends she made during those years. She was a homemaker for the first 10 years or so of her children\'s lives wanting to provide a decent loving home for her family. Even taking on foster boys at one time. She then went to work at Northwest Traffic Associates for another ten years. During this time she met and married Henri Kahn Carnay (on October 26, 1990).
Henri and Renae did a lot of traveling by car, boat and plane. Their first long cruise was to Hawaii and they never stopped going after that awesome adventure! They went to Barcelona, Spain and cruised back to Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Met wonderful people who became such good friends. The last trip they took was to drive to Arizona to visit her cousin Sandy and then Palm Springs to visit the Steinbocks.
Henri died in Tacoma July 4, 2012.
All together she has had an exciting life and now she is on to the next adventure.
Services will be held from 11am-2pm at the Attic (1003 Main Street, Sumner, WA 98390) on Saturday, November 6.
