Duane R. Tandy passed away on Dec. 26, 2025 at the age of 77. He was born on Feb. 15, 1948 in Vancouver, WA. He spent his early years in Camas, Washington and moved to Seattle in 1955 with his family when Duane was seven. He was married twice prior to meeting Joan, his beloved life partner. He raised two daughters from his first marriage and had four grandchildren, all whom he loved dearly. He dedicated his career to Associated Grocers, retiring at a young age.
During his retirement, he helped care for Joan’s mom in her later years, tended the beautiful yard at the lake house with care, enjoyed soaking in the hot tub, sunbathing on the deck, and was often found perched on a stool in the garage, visiting with a neighbor or tinkering on a project, surrounded by his immense collection of tools and gadgets, anything and everything you can imagine.
Duane frequented all the local casinos where he enjoyed playing blackjack and the slots. He took advantage of the free overnights or parking the motorhome out back and staying a night or two. Between Duane and Joan, they had a garage full of kitchen appliances, luggage, electronics, and every variety of casino give-away you can imagine. At times, going to the garage was a bit like walking in to Home Goods. When not at the casino, Duane enjoyed playing cards at home with friends and family, always ready with the deluxe card shuffler to get a game going.
Duane was the epitome of being laid back, often sporting denim and a flannel or a tee-shirt, lounging in a recliner or a camp chair, typically with either a Pepsi or Coors Light in one hand and for many years, a cigarette in the other. He was known as easy going and kind, full of tidbits of knowledge and interesting facts he was happy to share. There was always a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye, even in the later years when he was plagued with health issues.
Duane enjoyed many annual activities including his hunting trip at Icicle Creek, camping at Cannon Beach, camping and fishing at Deception Pass, weeks at the Worldmark in Depoe Bay or Birch Bay, and the Fourth of July parties at the lake, always with the common theme of being surround by his family and close friends.
He is survived by his significant other of 30 years, Joan Gaspar, his daughters, Heather (Will) Farris and Holly (Joe) Woods, his grandchildren, Chase and Grace Farris, Hannah and Hayden Woods, sister-in-law Susan Tandy, nephew Adam and numerous family and friends who will cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Veda, his brother Brian, his sister, Nicki Brood and niece Kim Sommerville.
Duane R. Tandy will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
