On Friday, February 8, 2019, at age 61, Cheryl Jean Caverly passed away quietly in her sleep while at her home in Orting, WA.
Cheryl was born in Portland, OR on May 20, 1957 to the late Dale and Joyca North. She was the youngest of six siblings, Sheila Bunnell, Sharon Miller, Patrick North, Michael North, and Charlotte Sprague, and she is the first among them to pass. Growing up she was a free-spirit and loved fishing, camping, swimming, playing with her siblings and lifelong friends, the Gomez family. All her life she was known for her quick wit and amazing sense of humor. She could find humor in any situation, as she often did.
On May 8, 1976, she married John Edward Caverly, Jr. in southern California. Together, they raised three beautiful daughters, Jennifer Clark, Julie Siegler, and Joyca Amend. Cheryl was apologetically proud of her family. She took pride in their successes. She was also a true partner to her husband John for 42 years. She lovingly referred to him as the luckiest man in the world. They loved to make each other laugh, visit Northwest Trek, travel together, and spoil their five grandchildren, Destiny, Trinidy, Austin, Mattalyn and Lincoln, along with their elderly grand-dog Sassy. She will also be missed by her son-in-laws, Scott Clark, Mike Siegler, and John Amend. Through the years, family and friends will remember Cheryl for serving a family-favorite dish of Buttermilk Salad, playing volleyball in the backyard, swimming at her parents’ community pool, and for sitting around the table with family visiting, laughing, and playing Nertz.
Cheryl was an avid sports fan and not just of the main stream sports teams like the Seahawks and Mariners (which she definitely loved too) but she waited all year for March Madness, and she knew all of the world-renowned tennis players as well as their back-stories. She never missed a Miss America pageant, or the Olympics, or the Triple Crown horse races. Only a week before her passing, she was listening to a podcast about professional hockey. When her daughters were growing up they were heavily involved in playing sports too, particularly softball and bowling. Cheryl and John never missed a practice, a game, or a tournament. Those in the family will remember her sitting in the stands and shouting “Hoo, hoo, hoo” as her signature cheer, which was contagious and jokingly became the calling of our family. She was a sports fan through and through and boy did she love a good underdog story.
Cheryl was blessed with some pretty special cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, neighbors, and friends. She had a way of listening without judgement and always with open arms, an open door, and a quick joke to make you smile. So many people were touched by her kindness and generosity. Please know that she loved and cherished each of you deeply.
Services will be held at St. Cosmas-Damian Catholic Church in Orting, WA on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 11:00 AM followed by a celebration of life reception in the same location. A graveside service will take place the following Monday, March 25th at 9:00 AM at Mountain View Cemetery in Auburn, WA.
Cheryl Caverly, you are loved, you are missed, and you will never be forgotten.
