Charles (Chuck) was born in Augusta, Sicily, Italy, on November 2, 1927. He was the third of four children. In 1929 the family moved to the United States and made their home in Boston, Massachusetts. Chuck spent three years (1945-1948) in the U.S. Coast Guard and manned a lighthouse during part of his time in the service. In 1950 he answered an ad for a job at The Boeing Company in Seattle. He began his 42-year Boeing career as a mechanic on the 707 Program. In 1953 he left Boeing to return to Boston but was later offered a management position on the 707 Program and returned to Seattle in 1955. His Boeing career took him all over the world. Chuck served on the Jet Foil, 707, 727, 737, 747, and AOG (airplane on ground) programs ending as the general superintendent for AWACS (military). He retired in 1994. Chuck met Arlene DeRoche at a VFW dance in Seattle in 1950. They married in 1951 and had four children. In 1966 they made their home on Lake Tapps where Chuck and Arlene lived the remainder of their lives. Chuck enjoyed traveling and playing basketball and tennis, but his passion was water-skiing. He skied nearly every day for years and spent all his free time on the lake. He was known to wake his kids early so he could get in a “run” on the lake before work. He was president of Save the Lake (now called Lake Tapps Community Council). Under Chuck’s leadership, the council became a powerful voice for the entire Lake Tapps community to preserve the beautiful recreational treasure. Chuck is preceded in death by his son Michael (2003), wife Arlene (2014), and his three sisters and is survived by three children Steve (Traci), Charlie (Carolyn), and Charlene (Tracy); five grandchildren Adam, Alexandra (Tyler), Drake, Drew (Samantha), and Nick; and two great grandchildren Bishop and Dahlia. Chuck was reunited with his wife Arlene on March 2. He passed away peacefully at home on Lake Tapps at the age of 93 with his children by his side.
