Charles (Bud) Gene Street was the youngest of 7 children born to Bev and Helen (Stacey) Street in Centralia Washington on June 21, 1935. Being the youngest in the family, he garnered the nickname “Buddy” from his older brothers and sisters. Later he became “Bud” which remained with him throughout his life.
Bud’s life changed forever when his best friend Jack set him up on a blind date New Year’s Eve 1953. That night, he met the love of his life, Eleanor Jean Frankhauser. After a short courtship between Centralia and Auburn, Bud proposed. They were married May 14, 1954 and just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Bud graduated in the top 10% of his high school class in June 1953, chosen by his classmates to speak at his graduation ceremony. Shortly after graduation he moved to Auburn to explore employment opportunities with Boeing. Instead, he took a position as a grocery clerk with Dahlgren/Massey supermarket (later becoming Massey’s) which was the largest supermarket west of the Mississippi at the time. Bud worked for Massey’s for 36 years where the crew grew into a family of lifetime friends. Today the old Massey’s building is the home of the Auburn Police Station. Bud loved dogs, photography, John Wayne, western movies, listening to old records, dancing (especially with his wife Elly), the Mariners, the Seahawks, hydroplane races, reading, chocolate, peanut butter “on everything,” traveling, and hats, lots of hats. He was always sporting a cowboy or sea captains’ hat. Family was everything to Bud. He loved family get-togethers, and no gathering was complete without him behind the lens of a camera. His retirement years were spent archiving thousands of slides and 8 mm video tapes onto CD’s. Passing family memories on to future generations was very important to him. Bud is survived by his wife Eleanor (Elly) Street, daughters Debra (Steve) Trott, Patti Jo Bucklin, Candice Street, sister Grace Raleigh, 9 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. Bud is preceded in death by his father Bev Street, mother Helen Street; brothers: Clyde, Fred and Al Street; sisters: Irene Stacey, Edith Anderson, and Granddaughter Kristen Salvini.
Bud and Elly moved to Port Orchard 26 years ago where they enjoyed a wonderful retirement. Their charming home with a gorgeous view of the water hosted numerous friends and family gatherings. Earlier this year they decided it was time to let someone else pull the weeds and fix the gutters so began making plans to move to Wesley Homes in Auburn. Bud and Elly enjoyed 5 beautiful days in their new home before Bud unexpectedly went home to be with the Lord.
Memorial Services for Bud will be held Saturday, July 13, 2019 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Wesley Homes Lea Hills, 32049 109th Pl SE, Auburn, WA. 98092. I lieu of flowers donations can be made to Seattle Cancer Center Alliance.
