Caryl Holmquist was born September 12 1927 in Gary, Indiana to Waldemar and Nellie Holmquist (whose parents came over from Sweden in the 1880s) and passed away January 21, 2024. 96 years old. She had five brothers and sisters, Richard, Donald, Robert, Jeanne, and Marjorie, all deceased.
She is survived by her three sons, Gary, Paul, and Mark Wagner; and Gary’s children, Chantrelle and Valen Wagner, his wife Stephanie and their two children Grant and Corrine.
Caryl graduated from Horace Mann High School in Gary, Indiana and went to business school. She then met and married Robert Wagner while working at a bank in Gary, Indiana, shortly after the end of his service as an Army paratrooper in World War II. They had three boys and moved to southern California.
In her early married decades, Caryl was a dedicated wife and mother, having dinner ready every evening, without exception, for the whole family to sit down to together.
Caryl’s husband became a pastor and they did missionary work travelling to the Philippines and Singapore.
In later years she became a travel agent and loved combining that job with travel to many countries. As a travel agent Caryl traveled the world to preview destinations for her clients. She also traveled to Sweden with her daughter-in-law, Stephanie, to her parents home.
As travel agents became less needed, she began a several-year career in sales at Nordstrom, which she retired from in her early seventies.
Caryl had a wonderful childhood and talked about it often. She loved her family very much and had many wonderful memories, including a ring and other jewelry that her father made for her.
Caryl loved Jesus and shared her godly wisdom with family and friends. She wanted them to experience the joy that comes from Christ, and ultimately make it to paradise that she is surely enjoying now.
Caryl’s Memorial will be February 9 4:00pm. at Edgewood Church of Joy Edgewood WA
