Obituary For Brian Arthur Swarthout

Brian Arthur Swarthout, passed away on December 13, 2023, in Puyallup, Washington, at the age of 67. He was born on March 12, 1956, in Killeen, Texas. He deeply loved his family and friends, and they reciprocated that love, describing him as one of a kind, with a heart of gold.

Brian was a graduate of Sumner High School in 1974. He embarked on a successful career in the natural gas industry, starting with Washington Natural Gas in the late 1970s. After the merger with Puget Sound Energy in 1997, he continued his passion for HVAC and established Swarthout's Natural Gas. Brian ran this company for over 20 years, leaving a lasting impact on the industry and community.

Outside of work, Brian enjoyed various hobbies, including fishing, camping, boating, and listening to classic rock. He found solace in spending time on Lake Tapps and cherished his visits to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, his favorite destination.

Brian is survived by his father, Fred Swarthout (Kay) and mother Patricia Blume; his son Matthew Swarthout (Sarah), daughter Breanne Meyers (Brian); his beloved grandchildren, Grayson, Alexa and Georgia and step grandchildren, Olivia and Alicia. Siblings, Mike, Jeff ( Connie), Venetia (Jeff), and Scott. He is preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Christine Swarthout, mother to Matt and Breanne. Although separated at the time of her death, her memory remained in Brian’s heart.

Brian Arthur Swarthout, or Swarty as he was affectionately known, will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved him. His kindness, love, and unforgettable spirit will forever be cherished in our hearts.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 9th, at 2:00 p.m. at Sumner City Cemetery, located at 12324 Valley Ave. E. in Puyallup, Washington. Following the service, a celebration of life will take place at the Kelley Farm, located at 20021 Sumner-Buckley HWY in Bonney Lake, Washington.

The compassionate professionals at Sumner Voiles Funeral Chapel, located at 15124 Main Street E. in Sumner, Washington, are assisting the family with the arrangements.

    I just learned of Brian's death after the Christmas card I sent him was returned. My deepest condolences to his children and grandchildren. I will remember Brian with fondness always. He may have had his faults, but he had a was a sweet guy with a heart of gold.
