Obituary For Betty Mae Spencer

Betty Mae Spencer, a long-time Sumner resident, died on February 24, 2024, at the age of 91. Born in 1932 in Seattle, she moved to Sumner in 1941, graduating from Sumner High School in 1950. She is survived by her son Stephen Spencer (Cindy McKinley) and daughter Raejean Spencer. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Charles Spencer and mother Dolly Goodman and Dolly’s husband Buddy. In addition to raising her children, Betty worked for 28 years for Sears & Roebuck in the Puyallup and Enumclaw stores. Betty’s wishes for a loving husband, two children, lifelong friendships, and a house with a picket fence were all realized. At Betty’s request, there will be no service. Donations may be made to Virginia Mason Franciscan Health Foundation. Please designate to Franciscan Hospice. Because of compassionate support from the hospice team, Betty’s family was able to honor her wish to stay in her home of 70 years at the end of her life. We are sad to lose our sweet Betty, but know she is in the house Charlie has been building her for 31 years. Rest assured it has a lovely view through a bay window.

Betty was a special lady. I know because I know her daughter. Raejean inherted her mother's love of people. They share a kind thoughtfulness. God bless Betty and her family.

Absolutely the best aunt a niece could have had.
