John “Jack” Edward Duoos, born on May 14, 1928, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2024, after a lengthy battle with dementia. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Carol Joan Forsell Duoos, who passed away on December 30, 2020.
Jack was the youngest of six children born to Norwegian immigrants John and Martha Duoos. He grew up on a farm near Mora, Minnesota and was the last surviving sibling of his family. Following in footsteps of his older brothers, Jack joined the Navy in 1944 to serve in World war II, spending time in the Bikini Islands until his medical discharge in 1947.
After his military service, Jack pursued architectural and drafting training at Augsburg College while helping his father and uncle build homes in the Minneapolis area. Jack worked at MN Flooring and Plywood from 1959 to 1962, after which he founded
his own construction company, J.E. Duoos Construction.
For the next 34 years he built homes in New Brighton and Twin Cities area until his retirement in 1997.
Jack met his future wife, Carol Joan Forsell, at Mount Olivet Church in Minneapolis, where he taught Sunday school. Their 60-year relationship began with a first date at the St. Paul Auto Show, accompanied by Jack's niece, Mary Williams. The couple married on May 5, 1962, at Wild Rice Lutheran Church in Twin Valley, MN, and settled in New Brighton, MN, where they raised their two children, Christopher Lawrence (born 1964) and Susan Adair (born 1968).
Throughout their lives, Jack and Carol were devoted to their faith and community. They were founding members of Atonement Lutheran Church in New Brighton and remained active in their church community for many years. In retirement, they relocated to Coon Rapids, MN, where they enjoyed 27 years with a close-knit group of neighborhood
friends.
Jack and Carol shared a passion for adventure and travel, exploring nearly all fifty states in their camper. Following Carol's passing, Jack moved to Auburn, Washington, to be cared for by his son Chris. He found peace and contentment in his final years living on the banks of the Green River.
Jack is survived by his daughter Susan (Brian) Earley, son Chris (Kellie, Jacob) Duoos, and numerous nieces and nephews. Special gratitude is given to Jack's nephew, Doug Duoos, who was both family and a close friend to Jack and Carol.
Jack will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him. Interment for Carol and Jack will be scheduled on their wedding anniversary in May 2025 at Wild Rice Lutheran Church in Twin Valley, MN.
